The last few years has definitely seen the world taking a stand against what we allow into and onto our bodies. From an increase in organic foods and vegetarianism, to the careful elimination taking place on our bathroom shelves of cosmetics and beauty products containing harmful chemical ingredients.
As the demand for such products continued, Wojciech Inglot, founder of the Polish cosmetics brand Inglot saw a gap in the market and created a new type of nail polish, a ‘breathable’ nail polish which he called O2M. By breathable, these polishes allowed water/ liquids and oxygen to pass through the polish and on to the nail plate – making it a less harmful beauty item and allowing for healthier nails. That was back in 2009.
Four years on, and it appears Mr Inglot, who sadly died last month, had actually created something groundbreaking for the Muslim female population. Something he probably didn’t realise is that these breathable nail polishes were what Muslim women across the globe had been dreaming/ waiting/ wishing for.
Since the nail polish allows water to seep through to the nail, it means that Muslim women can wear them during obligatory prayers. After much research by Muslim cleric Shaykh Mustafa Umar, these nail polishes have now been certified as Halal.
I’m certain many Muslim women are extremely grateful to Mr Inglot for his creation, even though his invention was not inspired by religion, he has managed to create a way of having healthier nails and putting a smile on the faces of many Muslim girls! I’m aware that not all Muslim girls will be convinced by this certification, but of course that is a personal decision.
There is a nice selection of colours available to choose from at the Inglot store in London and online, but we definitely want more! Of course, to keep these polishes breathable, you must also use the O2M Base and Top coat.
The polishes apply nicely and give a good opaque finish. No doubt these will be very popular this summer. If you have tried any O2M polishes, post some pictures on Instagram with the tag ‘Halalnails’ so we can all have a look. If you want to tag me, i’m on @kismetlola.
I’m looking forward to wearing mine!
